Paris's best food market -- on Boulevard de Grenelle.

No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to at least one of the city's bustling food markets.

The Sunday morning organic market on Boulevard Raspail in St-Germain between rue de Rennes and rue du Cherche-Midi attracts local chefs and celebrities. The Marche Rue de Buci is one of the easiest for visitors to explore because it's open every day but Monday and is conveniently located near other St-Germain attractions. And rue Mouffetard, in the Latin Quarter, is the place to go for freshly shucked oysters.

But we like the Boulevard de Grenelle Market, located under the metro rail bridge, between Avenue La Motte Picquet and Dupleix. The local market for the elegant 7th and the more middle class 15th, Rue de Grenelle is the real deal. On Wednesdays, you'll find meat, fruit, vegetables, cheese, flowers, spices, fish, and wine. And on Sundays, there are also antiques and bric a brac.

Giant pans of paella scent the air with saffron. Rotisserie chickens baste carrots and potatoes. And exotic creatures of the sea lay beached on chipped ice.

For the best selection, come early. Bring lots of change. And do your best to speak at least a little French.

Fans of stinky cheese should take a short stroll down Rue de Lourmel to Laurent Dubois, one of the best cheese shops in Paris. Then head for Boulangerie Poilane at 49 Boulevard de Grenelle for the best bread in town.
