Great restaurants in Yountville.

The Napa Valley town of Yountville has the distinction of having more Michelin stars per capita than any place in the world. French Laundry leads the pack with three stars - one of only six restaurants in the United States to have earned that distinction.  Bistro Jeanty, Bouchon, and Redd each have one.

To dine at French Laundry, you'll need to make reservations two months in advance - to the day - and be prepared to pay $240 for the 9-course tasting menu. You won't have to go to quite so much effort, or expense, to enjoy the others, although you will need to plan ahead.

But there are several other restaurants in Yountville that are well worth patronizing. The well-regarded Brix has evolved into 25º Brix, named for the sugar level at which the family's Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested. Focused on farm-to-table dining, the menu features many ingredients picked from the restaurant's beautiful 2-acre gardens. To see their menu or make reservations, vist www.25degreesbrix.com

If you'd like to dine within a winery, Etoile at Domaine Chandon lacks for nothing. They've recently redone their gardens and to celebrate, they're hosting "garden parties" every Sunday between August 31 and September 28. Come for a five-course lunch or a seven-course dinner and you'll be treated to wonderfully fresh and imaginative dishes. Make reservations at www.chandon.com/web/visit-us/events.cfm

For great, updated American fare, Mustards Grill is a relaxed, affordable choice. Everything that comes out of the wood-burning grill - from chipotle-rubbed quail to the grilled hangar steak - is bursting with flavor. And the desserts are irresistible.
