Spend the Night on the Great Barrier Reef.

Although the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most spectacular destinations on earth, it can also be something of a letdown. If conditions aren’t great – if it’s choppy or overcast – you may feel underwhelmed. And when conditions are perfect, you may be overwhelmed by the number of people sharing your reef experience with you.

A company called Fantasea has the solution – an overnight stay right on the reef. A frequent Whitsunday Tourism award winner, Reefsleep offers a king-bedded room for two or a bunk-bedded room for up to four.

With rates starting at $400 AUD, it’s not cheap. But the tariff includes the catamaran to and from the reef, snorkeling equipment, two SCUBA dives, and four meals.

Once the day-trippers heads back to shore, you’ll have the reef all to yourself. Watch the sunset from the upper deck with a glass of Champagne in hand before the Reefsleep host serves you dinner under the stars.

The underwater viewing chamber is available all night long. And the next morning, you’ll have time for snorkeling or a dive before the first boat arrives.
