Lyon in the Desert
Winner of the "more money than sense" award, a Dubai entrepreneur has decided to replicate the city of Lyon, France in Dubai City – at a cost of €500 million.
The urban planners and architects he’s hired for the project will duplicate Lyon’s cobbled streets, charming theaters, bistros and boutiques. Paul Bocuse will open a hotel school to ensure that service in the new Lyon matches that of the original. And 3,000 homes will be built for Dubai residents.
The city of Lyon agreed to the deal in early January. Lyon-Dubai City won’t be completed until 2011. But if you just can’t wait, you can visit the new branch of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi.
