Michael Palin Explores Eastern Europe.

We think John Cleese is the funniest man in the world.  In an interview a couple of years ago, they asked him what one thing he would want if he were stranded on a desert island.  His answer?  Fellow Monty Python member, Michael Palin.

Palin’s BBC travel series – Around the World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole, Himalaya, and Sahara – confirm Cleese’s good taste.  Palin is a charming, insightful guide with a delicious sense of humor and an inveterate sprit of adventure.

Bird's Eye View of Belfast.

For the past couple of years, Dublin has been everyone's darling.  A big infusion of Euros made the formally gloomy capital glamorous.  But Belfast – 100 miles to the north – is really coming into its own.

Those who equate the city with violence and unrest will be pleasantly surprised.  Even the British Army has withdrawn (after 38 years).  Readers of the Guardian and Observer voted Edinburgh their Favorite City in the U.K.
